Scholarship
The Aspiring Writers Scholarship.
Scrivy builds tools that help self-published authors find readers. Every one of those authors started the same way: a student somewhere, sure they had a book in them. Once a year we award $500 to a student we believe will write something worth reading.
- The award$500, given once a year to one student. There is no application fee, and you never need a Scrivy account to apply.
- Who can applyHigh school seniors headed to college, and students enrolled in an accredited two-year, four-year, or graduate program in the US. All majors.
- DeadlineApplications close December 31 each year. We announce the recipient by January 31.
- First awardThis is the inaugural year. The first recipient will be announced by January 31, 2027, and past recipients will be listed here each year after.
Who we’re looking for.
We don’t pick the recipient by GPA, and you don’t need to be an English major. We’re looking for three things:
- You write. Fiction, nonfiction, poetry, essays; the genre matters less than the habit.
- You have a book in mind. Planned or already in progress, with every intention of finishing it.
- You’re a student. Studying anything, anywhere in the US. Some of the best books come from nursing programs, history departments, and computer science labs.
How to apply.
Email the following to scholarship@scrivy.co with the subject line “Scholarship application”:
- 1Proof of enrollmentA transcript, class schedule, or college acceptance letter. We only use it to confirm eligibility.
- 2A short introductionA few sentences about who you are, where you study, and what you write. A resume is welcome but optional.
- 3Your essayIn 500 to 700 words: tell us about the book you intend to write. Who is it for, and why does it need to exist?
We read every essay, and the recipient is chosen on the strength of the writing. We announce the winner by January 31 and email them directly.
The fine print
- One award of $500 is given per year, paid directly to the recipient.
- Applicants must be high school seniors who will enroll in college, or students enrolled at an accredited US institution. All majors are eligible.
- No purchase or Scrivy account is required to apply or to win.
- By applying you confirm the essay is your own work. We will not publish your essay or your name without asking you first.
- We use your application only to administer the scholarship. It does not subscribe you to anything.
